Following a degree in psychology, I have spent most of my career in human resources, working on a freelance basis through my own company since 2004.

I first played table tennis at the age of 9. Having found a sport that I enjoyed, I became obsessed but very frustrated during my teenage years, lacking confidence to go out and find more opportunities to play.

I first qualified as a coach soon after graduating, but it was only after playing for another thirty years that I discovered coaching could be more satisfying than playing.

Taking up coaching more seriously, coupled with my research into the history of table tennis in England, led me firstly to write Ping! and then Kate's Progress.

Shortly after Kate's Progress was published, I was interviewed about both my books on BBC Radio Essex. Click the button below to hear the interview.
