Following a degree in psychology, I have spent most of my career in human resources, working on a freelance basis through my own company since 2004.

I first played table tennis at the age of 9. Having found a sport that I enjoyed, I became obsessed but very frustrated during my teenage years, lacking confidence to go out and find more opportunities to play.

​

I first qualified as a coach soon after graduating, but it was only after playing for another thirty years that I discovered coaching could be more satisfying than playing.

​

Taking up coaching more seriously, coupled with my research into the history of table tennis in England, led me firstly to write Ping! and then Kate's Progress.

​
